Description: Tarangire Treetops is a tourism site located within the Tarangire Conservation Area straddling the wet-season migration route into the adjacent Tarangire National Park.

The partnership is with the villages of Lokisale and Makayuni. Tarangire Treetops provides revenue for community development in exchange for limitations on farming and grazing and a halt to poaching, deforestation and charcoal burning.

The engagement of communities in resource management resolves conflicts and creates economic opportunities while preserving the habitats and migration routes of wildlife.

There is a history in the area of marginalization of communities in favor of tourism development. Marginalized communities become recruiting grounds for poachers. Postive feedbacks between protection, tourism, and community development builds support for the protected area.

[editors note: we need information on the history of Treetops and the establishment of the partnership with communities. We also need information to assess the success and replicability of the Treetops experience].
