Description:
a 90,000 acre wildlife reserve situated between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. A former ranch, Ol Pejeta Conservancy was created in 2004 by the UK based conservation organization Fauna and Flora International. This will create the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, with the aim of generating profit from wildlife tourism and complementary activities (including cattle) for reinvestment into community development in the local area.
The estimated capital expenditure required to achieve these aims (over a 5 year period) would amount to a maximum USD 6.8m producing an estimated annual profitability of approximately USD 500,000 after 5 years. It is proposed that the future profits created by the company will be used to develop an extensive community out-reach programme to assist the development of the local area.
