Description: Sociedade de Gestão e Desenvolvimento da Reserva do Niassa (SRN), is based on an innovative partnership between the public and private sector, where the Government of Mozambique retains ownership of the land and wildlife resources and assists in the management of the Reserve."
Comments: "The Board comprises representatives of both private sector and Government namely the National Director of Forestry and Wildlife and the National Director for the Conservation Areas. The management team is composed of experienced Mozambican nationals assisted by a team of wildlife conservation specialists."
Jonathan Timberlake from the UK states: "(SRN) Reserve in N Mozambique, the Niassa Game Reserve, that is owned by central government, but which is managed by a "private company" comprising shareholding with strong community and Provincial Government involvement. There has been fairly significant funding from the US, channeled through Fauna & Flora International, but the idea is that the Reserve Management, a company called Sociedade de Gestao e Desenvolvimento do Reserva do Niassa (SGDRN), tries to cover as much of the running costs as possible through tourism (at this stage mostly safari hunting) and other means."
