Comments: "Nga Whenua Rahui is a contestable Ministerial fund administered by the Department of Conservation which was established in 1991 to help achieve the objectives of the Indigenous Forest Policy. In 1998 the scope of the fund was widened to include non-forest ecosystems. Since its inception Nga Whenua Rahui has had over 140 proposals approved by the Minister of Conservation involving 230,000 hectares of indigenous ecosystems."
